Riders and Support Team

Rules:

1. REGISTRATION
Race day is Sunday, September 5th
All riders must check in at the registration tent on Knutsford Moor before 11.00am.
1. to register their attendance,
2. to collect their race number,
3. to collect their transponder + plastic fitting bracket
4. to collect a sponsors vest if the team has been allocated a sponsor.
5. to be given their Start Position

n.b. The Red Cross Ambulance Service will be present to deal with accidents and unexpected illness.
Please advise them if you have a particular health condition, or if you are taking medication, so they may act appropriately in case of emergency.

2. TRANSPONDER CHECK
After registration, you must fit your transponder.
The plastic bracket [supplied at registration] goes on the lowest part of the rear fork of your machine.
Every machine must have a plastic bracket fitted.

The transponder fits into the plastic bracket.
There is 1 transponder for each relay team and solo team, and this will be moved from machine to machine when the teams change riders

After fitting, please report to Simon Hill – of ‘Xtramileevents’ – He will check your transponder is working with the lap recording equipment.

3. SCRUTINIZATION
Next – your machine must be checked by the events scrutineers. They will be looking for loose, or poorly fitted, tyres. You will have the opportunity to remedy any defects and resubmit your machine to the scrutineers.

If the scrutineers think your machine is not safe you will not be allowed to race.

4. PRACTICE LAPS
Practice riding on the track is permitted on Sunday only, from 10.00am until 11.30am.
Machines must be ridden in an anti-clockwise direction.

5. MASS PHOTOGRAPH
Please assemble at 13.30 along the Starting Grid for a photograph of all riders.
After the photograph, all start riders from relay teams and solo riders remain on the Starting Grid, other riders retire to the Pit area.

6. THE START
At registration each rider is given a Start position. . This will depend on past experience and performance. The most experienced riders will be at the front of the group.
Riders must be in their given Start position by 13.45.
A rolling start will begin at 13.55 and riders will complete 2 laps.
At 14.00 the Starting Cannon will fire.
The Start Flag will drop as the riders pass the Start & Finish post, to signify the start of the race.

7. THE RACE
The race is made up of 19 teams and 26 solo riders, 86 riders in total .
The race lasts for 3 hours, finishing at 17.00.
The winner will be the solo rider, or the team, which completes the highest number of laps in 3 hours

8. THE FINISH
At 1700hrs the cannon will be fired again to signify the end of the race.
All riders should complete their lap by riding through the Finish, past the chequered flag.

9. LAP COUNTING
Each machine has a transponder lap counter. The transponder has been programmed with the team’s race number. As the machine passes over the electronic mat it will automatically count the laps for that race number.
The lap counter will be constantly monitored by Xtramileevents.
The winner will be the teams/solo rider with the highest number of laps recorded by the lap counter

10. ACCIDENTS
In the event of an accident on the track:-
The Clerk of the Course will sound a KLAXON and Race Stewards will wave a BLACK flag
All riders must STOP immediately, dismount, and wait in that position until the Clerk of the Course starts the race again.
The race will start again when the Clerk of the Course sounds the Klaxon again.
Time lost will be added to the end of the race to complete 3 hours.

YELLOW flags will be waved to show there is an obstruction on the course and you should
PROCEED WITH GREAT CAUTION

BLUE flags will be waved to warn of pedestrians crossing the track, PROCEED WITH CARE

11. DANGEROUS RIDERS
If any rider is riding in a way considered to be a danger to themselves, or to other riders, they will be reported to the Clerk of the Course. The Clerk of the Course can take the decision to DISQUALIFY that rider . The rider will be shown a RED flag and must stop racing immediately

The decision of the Clerk of the Course is final. There is no appeal.

12. RELAY TEAM CHANGEOVERS.
Be Safe, Alert, Avoid Collisions and Obstructions
When a rider in a team enters the Pits to change riders, please ensure
1. You do not cause an obstruction
2. There are no collisions
3. A team member stands ready to ‘grab’ the handle bars, to steady the machine for a safe & quick dismount.
4. MOVE THE TRANSPONDER ON TO THE NEW MACHINE
5. A team member assists the new rider to mount and exit the Pits safely, onto the course
